Nene Shooting
David has been shooting clay targets, driven game and rough shooting for over 30 years. An accredited BASC shotgun coach, he's keen to share his experience, knowledge and love of the sport with you, whether you're a novice or an experienced shot.
What we do
Locations
David coaches clay target shooting at established shooting grounds in East Anglia and the East Midlands, covering Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire, Rutland, Leicestershire, Nottinghamshire, Northamptonshire plus Bedfordshire.
'On the peg' game shooting coaching can be provided at any established game shoot in East Anglia or the Midlands, or further afield by arrangement.
If you haven't tried shotgun shooting before, there's no time like the present to start. David provides 'have a go' sessions for individual male or female adult clients and juniors, or for groups:
All of these events will be at an established shooting ground where you will be shown how to shoot clay targets in a safe environment. David will provide all the necessary PPE equipment and shotguns, and his relaxed, friendly and confident coaching style will ensure you have a fun experience.
In-depth lessons and full courses can be arranged if you wish to take up the sport. You can learn more about shooting techniques, targets, shotguns and other equipment.
David can help you if you've already taken up the sport and want to develop further.
You may want to improve your scores, hone your technique, learn a new style (such as shooting from a 'gun down' position), solve a target you've been struggling with, simply brush up your shooting under the experienced eye of a coach or ensure you haven't acquired any bad habits.
David can provide a one-off coaching session or a short course tailored to your needs. Each session will be at an established shooting ground, using your own gun.
Don't wait until the Season starts! Struggling on your first few days out because you haven't picked up your gun since the end of the last season is frustrating - and an expensive mistake.
David is a keen and experienced game shooter and can help you to prepare by knocking off the rust spots or help you address a 'difficult' bird with pre-season practice at an established clay shooting ground.
Don't be put off by pundits who say that clay shooting will 'spoil your eye' for game shooting - that's a myth. David says "flight patterns and speed are different but one of the most important factors in successful shooting in any discipline is a good and consistent gun mount and this can only be achieved through practice".
It's very exciting to receive your first ever invitation to attend a driven game shoot, but there's a lot to learn and prepare for, not least making sure your shooting skills don't let you down.
David can help you prepare for the big day with pre-event practice, in-the-field safety, shooting etiquette and field craft.
On the day itself, David can attend the shoot with you (with the Shoot Captain's permission) to provide 'on the peg' tuition and loading.
Most of us have a dominant eye - one that sends signals to our brain a fraction faster than the other. That's natural, but when you're shooting it's important to make sure that the eye looking along the top of the barrel is in control. David can test your eye dominance and provide solutions if it's not the same side as your hand dominance.
Gun fit is crucial to successful shooting. Poor gun fit will cause you to stand incorrectly and/or place your eye in the wrong place, resulting in missed targets. It will also make shooting tiring and uncomfortable. David can check the fit of your own gun and your gun mount, suggesting any adjustments necessary.
It's easy to get carried away by the beauty and variety of shotguns on display at your local gun dealer and end up with a gun that doesn't suit you, or how you wish to use it.
David can help you sort through the maze of options and choose a gun that's within your budget, fits you and is suitable for the types of shooting you want to pursue.
David says "if it's your first gun, don't rush into it. Wait until you know which eye is dominant, which shoulder you'll be shooting from and you've developed a consistent gun mount. A little patience at this stage will help ensure that the gun you buy is appropriate for you".

All clay target shooting will be arranged through an established clay shooting ground. David coaches at Eriswell Lodge in Suffolk, Grimsthorpe Estate in Lincolnshire and Sporting Targets in Bedfordshire, but will do his best to select a ground as near to you as possible.
